Impregnated by the practice of graffiti, which he began in 1990 in Rennes, Brez develops a painting that seems to use codes from cubism, constructivism or futurism. However, his graphic language is more certainly the heritage of the research of a letter style, a quest intimately related to the world of graffiti writing. Between abstraction and figuration, his In Situ paintings are inspired by the panorama while playing with the surface of the chosen places. The workshop work feeds on the forms inherited from graffiti and adapts to the limited frame of the canvas. He feeds again the painting in the public space in a permanent coming and going.

Terres-Neuvas

Les terre-neuvas sont les pêcheurs qui, du xvi^e siècle au xx^e siècle, partaient chaque année des côtes européennes pour pêcher la morue sur les grands Bancs de Terre-Neuve, au large du Canada. Cette pêche a pris fin à cause de la raréfaction du poisson à la fin du xx^e siècle due à la surpêche.

Cette peinture, réalisée au dos du musée des terres-neuvas de Saint-Malo, à l’occasion de la cinquième biennale d’art urbain à Saint-Malo, évoque cette pêche qui fût longtemps l’une des ressources principales de ce port Breton.

The terre-neuvas were the fishermen who, from the 16th to the 20th century, set out each year from the European coasts to fish for cod on the large Banks of Newfoundland, off the Canadian coast. This fishery came to an end due to the scarcity of fish in the late 20th century as a consequence of overfishing.

This painting, made on the back of the Terre Neuvas Museum in Saint-Malo, on the occasion of the fifth urban art Biennial in Saint-Malo, evokes this fishing which was for a long time one of the main activities of this Breton port.

OPHTA- AEG GROUP

En 2023, la société OPHTA, filiale du groupe AEG m’a contactée afin d’habiller leurs nouveaux locaux à Thorigné-Fouillard. Si, au départ, il ne s’agissait que d’une peinture murale, l’expérience a été si positive que la direction à souhaiter me commander plusieurs séries d’oeuvres d’ateliers.

J’ai donc proposé plusieurs séries de toiles, chacune s’adaptant à la pièce qui les accueillent. Cela donne une véritable exposition personnelle qui offrira, je l”espère un univers inspirant pour les équipes de l’entreprise.

In 2023, the company OPHTA, a branch of the AEG group, contacted me to decorate their new headquarters in Thorigné-Fouillard. Initially, it was just a mural, but the experience was so successful that the directors wanted to commission several series of studio works.

So I proposed several series of canvases, each one adapted to the room in which it was installed. The result is a truly personal exhibition, which I hope will provide an inspiring universe for the company’s teams.

Festival d’Art Urbain : Banana Pshit 2024

Banana Pshit est un festival d’art urbain initié il y a 4 ans à Dijon par l’artiste RNST. Désormais, il est porté par l’équipe du M.U.R. et de Zutique Production.

L’équipe organisatrice a fait appel à moi pour réaliser le visuel de cette 4eme édition. Elle m’a aussi invité à réaliser une performance sur le parvis du musée des Beaux arts de Dijon.

Banana Pshit is an urban art festival initiated 4 years ago in Dijon by the artist RNST. It’s supported by the M.U.R. team and Zutique Production.

I was asked by the organising team to create the visual for this 4th edition of Pshit. They also invited me to make an artwork on the forecourt of the Musée des Beaux Arts in Dijon.

Ar gwez-nij

Ar gwez nij, littéralement les arbres volants en breton. Commande pour un espace commercial à Bain de Bretagne, je propose ici une image poétique en anamorphose avec ce visage qui s’ouvre sur un paysage imaginaire. Que le visiteur s’y raconte sa propre histoire m’amuse forcement, moi j’ai la mienne et je la garde.

Ar gwez nij, literally flying trees in Breton. Commissioned for a commercial space in Bain de Bretagne, this is a poetic anamorphic image with a figure that opens onto an imaginary landscape. I’m quite happy for visitors to tell their own stories, I’ve got mine and I’m keeping it.

La violoncelliste

Cette peinture a été réalisée à l’invitation de la municipalité de Pleurtuit en 2024 sur l’enceinte d’une école de musique. En général je m’inspire de l’environnement du mur mais ici j’avais peu d’éléments remarquables dans le panorama. J’avais la contrainte d’un mur au format très allongé, j’ai donc décidé de représenter cette violoncelliste enlaçant son instrument. Cette image s’est construite naturellement sous la mine de mon criterium. J’ai le souvenir d’avoir essayé cet instrument il y a très longtemps. Lorsque l’on y joue, la vibration qu’il transmet dans le corps est profonde et unique, c’est à mon avis une belle allégorie de la musique. J’ai voulu faire référence à ce rapport sensuel à l’instrument, ce vibrato qui résonne au plus profond notre corps. Et il y a aussi la résonance de la mélodie, ce fil indicible qui nous relit à nos souvenirs les plus intimes.

This painting was created at the invitation of the municipality of Pleurtuit in 2024 on the walls of a music school. I usually take my inspiration from the environment of the wall, but here I had few remarkable elements in the panorama. I was constrained by the very long format of the wall, so I decided to imagine this cellist embracing her instrument. This image came naturally under the lead of my criterium. I remember trying out this instrument a long time ago. When you play it, the vibration it transmits to your body is profound and unique, and I think it’s a beautiful allegory of music. I wanted to refer to this sensual relationship with the instrument, this vibrato that resonates in the deepest inside your bodies. And then there’s the resonance of the melody, that indescribable thread that connects us to our most intimate memories.

Back to school

Au printemps 2022, nous avons travaillé avec les élèves du groupe scolaire Sacré cœur d’Ercé-prés-Liffré afin de redonner vie à ce vieux preault. Tous les élèves ont participé à la conception de cette création ; la gamme chromatique, l’agencement des formes tout en nous inspirant des couleurs environnantes.

In the spring of 2022, we worked with the children of the Sacré cœur school group in Ercé-Prés-Liffré to bring this old preault back to life. All the pupils participated in the conception of this creation; the chromatic range, the arrangement of the forms while being inspired by the surrounding colours.
