This painting clearly illustrates my desire to confront painting not only with the surface it occupies, but also—and above all—with the landscape in which it is situated.
Here, the color palette is the scene itself: this industrial wasteland awaiting its future, this unseasonably mild winter where the vegetation has barely gone dormant; in the background, a not-so-distant future that is gradually encroaching on the terrain.
Inside, geometric shapes stand out and overlap, arranged neatly in a precarious balance—that of an old shed at the back of a garden, where, as in a cabinet of curiosities, arrangements of various forms are displayed, evoking what they do not reveal. The contour : sometimes sharp, sometimes sketched as if with a pencil stroke—and the layered materials hint at the strata of a work in progress. One thinks one recognizes a landscape, landscapes, evocations, fragments of this wasteland: a liminal space, a vestige, and a breath of fresh air in the midst of a concrete forest.
